Three things decide which fabric is right.

How much light you want through the weave, what the room is used for, and what the Gold Coast climate will do to it over the next ten years.

Openness factor, in plain terms

Openness factor is simply how much of the weave is open. A lower number means less light and more privacy. Blockout sits at 0% — no light through it at all. Our outdoor mesh runs 5% for view-through with glare control, or 1% when privacy matters more.

Blockout, light filter, sunscreen and sheer

Blockout gives full darkness and night privacy. Light filter softens daylight without blacking out. Sunscreen keeps your view while cutting glare — but that privacy reverses after dark. Sheer is the softest, for daytime light and a gentle finish.

What the coast does to fabric

Salt air, humidity and hard UV are tougher on fabric here than inland. Outdoor mesh needs a PVC-coated yarn built for it. Indoors, a west or north-facing window is worth flagging to your consultant when you pick a range.

9 ranges · Approx. 2–3 weeks

Nine indoor ranges. One that suits the room.

Nine ranges for roller and panel blinds — blockout for full darkness, light filter for softened daylight, and a sunscreen weave that keeps the view. Most ranges come in matching blockout and light filter shades, so you can run one colour through the whole house.

Before you decide

Fabric never photographs honestly.

Colour shifts on a screen and texture does not read at all. Every range on this page is sampled in our Currumbin Waters showroom, and your consultant brings samples to your free in-home measure so you can hold them against your own light, flooring and furniture.

That is also when we work out which way each window faces, what the room is used for, and whether a double roller makes more sense than asking one fabric to do everything.

Fabric questions

Fabric — answered.

The questions that come up most often in the showroom.

What openness factor should I choose for a west-facing window?
For a west-facing window taking hard afternoon sun, a lower openness number gives you more control. Openness factor is simply how much of the weave is open — a 5% openness mesh like SeaScreen 95% cuts glare and UV while keeping your view, while a 1% openness like SeaScreen 99% blocks more again. If you want the room fully dark, a blockout fabric at 0% openness is the answer, and a double roller lets you switch between the two through the day.
What is the difference between blockout and sunscreen fabric?
Blockout fabric has no openness at all — light does not pass through it, so it gives full darkness and complete privacy day and night. Sunscreen fabric is a loose weave that shades the room and cuts glare while you can still see out. During the day a sunscreen gives you privacy from outside, but at night that reverses, which is why bedrooms and street-facing rooms usually want a blockout, or a double roller carrying both.
Can I get fabric samples before I order?
Yes. Every range on this page is sampled in our Currumbin Waters showroom, open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 2:30pm, and our consultant brings samples with them to your free measure and quote. Seeing a fabric in your own light, against your own flooring and furniture, is the only reliable way to choose — screens never show colour and texture accurately.
Which fabrics hold up best to salt air and coastal sun?
For outdoor blinds, SeaScreen is woven from PVC-coated yarn specifically for coastal conditions — SeaScreen 95% is 30% polyester / 70% PVC-coated yarn and SeaScreen 99% is 20% polyester / 80% PVC. Indoors, UV exposure matters more than salt, so a west or north-facing window is worth discussing with your consultant when you pick the range.
Do the fabrics come in matching blockout and light filter?
Six of our indoor ranges do — Mantra, Palm Beach, Le Reve, Skye, Linesque and Chatsworth all carry matching blockout and light filter shades. That means you can run one colour through the whole house and vary only how much light each room gets, which is the usual approach for bedrooms versus living areas.
How do I clean blind fabric without damaging it?
For roller blind and outdoor mesh fabrics, dust with a duster or a soft lint-free cloth. Never use abrasive products, solvents or industrial cleaners, and seek professional cleaning if a fabric needs more than a surface clean. Curtain fabrics differ — gently vacuum with the appropriate attachment, remove hooks, rings and trims before cleaning, and drip dry in the shade.
