BLINDS
The fabric and bottom rail can be gently vacuumed with a brush attachment to remove surface dust. A damp white cloth can be used to wipe aluminum bottom rails.
Marks on fabric can be treated with mild detergent, warm water and soft white cloth. Be sure to test the effect of the cleaner on a discreet piece of the fabric to ensure the material is not stained or bleached by the cleaning product.
Regular dusting and/or vacuuming of venetian products is recommended to avoid dust build up. Use the brush attachment for ease of cleaning. For stubborn dirt, a mild detergent, warm water and soft white cloth can be used.
Timber products should not be exposed to or immersed in water due to possible warping. If timber becomes damp, ensure the
product is dried quickly to prevent water marks.
CURTAINS
Care guides are sewn to the top corner of each curtain and are to be referred to for cleaning.
To maintain and preserve the life of curtains, regular dusting and vacuuming should be undertaken. For delicate sheer fabrics, shake the fabric well so that the dust falls to the floor, then vacuum the surrounding area.
Frequent laundering is not usually required. As with any fabric article, regular laundering can reduce the life and appearance of the item.
Only dry clean or launder if necessary, adhering to the Care Code instructions and always remove hooks before cleaning. If dry cleaning is required, ensure that the Dry Cleaner is approved for work with curtains.
Clean windows regularly to prevent dust, dirt and grime from transferring to the curtains. Ensure that any cleaning product used on the windows does not make contact with the curtain fabric.
Regularly clean the curtain tracks to remove built up dust and debris by gently vacuuming the tracks and wiping with a damp cloth. To ensure smooth operation of the track, stack the curtains to the side and lightly spray the inside of the track with silicon lubricant spray (taking care to ensure the spray does not come into contact with the curtain fabric, cover the fabric if necessary).

BLINDS
Matching Dye Lot
Dye lot matching cannot be guaranteed for blinds ordered at a later date. Minor colour variations may occur between any colour swatch provided and the blind supplied, as the colour swatch is a guide only .
Textured/Jacquard/Patterned fabrics
The straightness of a horizontal weave can increasingly slant off grain, in some instances by up to 30mm from one side to the other. This is a normal characteristic of textured woven fabrics.
Light Gaps
The fundamental design of Roller blinds means that all roller blinds will have light gaps on either side and the top of the blind. The width of the blind is always wider than the fabric due to the brackets and operating mechanisms on each side. Light gaps are most obvious when the blinds are fitted inside the window reveal. Face fitting can reduce the light gap however it will not provide complete room darkening. The option of cassette with side channels will best minimise light gaps on roller blinds. Panel Glide blinds and Vertical Drapes similarly do not provide complete room darkening. Both Aluminium and Timber Venetian blinds also have light gaps on either side. Light will also reflect off the slats.
Fabric Veeing
Roller blinds wider than 2000mm, can show the effect of veeing due to deflection of the top tube, particularly when light is reflected onto the fabric. Drops over 2400mm can exacerbate the veeing. V eeing can also result in puckering/wrinkling of the
fabric along the bottom rail. This is inherent in all larger blinds. The option to split the opening from one blind into two or more blinds, with or without linking will reduce this occurrence.
Railroading/Cupping
Certain non-textured fabrics can be railroaded (fabric cut off the roll and turned sideways) to allow for wider width blinds. A consequence of railroading is that it often causes the fabric to cup/curl on the side edges of the blind. Railroading fabric can also alter the visual aspect of the fabric, and can be more pronounced in some fabrics. For continuity , if one blind in a room has to be railroaded due to its width, then all blinds in the room should be railroaded. Fabric suppliers do not warrant railroaded fabrics. Narrow width Roller blinds and Panel Glide blinds have a tendency to cup.
Tracking
Narrow width Roller blinds, particularly with long drops, have a tendency to track (roll off to one side) when being raised. Tracking can also occur when roller blinds are left down over open windows or doors, due to airflow creating in & out movement of the blind. Tracking of the fabric into the mechanism or brackets will cause irreparable damage to the edges of the fabric. To correct tracking gently guide the bottom rail until the fabric is rolling up straight.
Puckering/Wrinkling
Blind fabrics can exhibit puckering/wrinkling due to temperature fluctuations and atmospheric conditions. Heat build-up between the glass and the fabric can relax the fabric resulting in puckering, particularly along the bottom rail, that can be visible during the day, but not at night when the fabric has cooled down. Conversely, predominantly with blockout fabrics, extreme cold from the glass window can stiffen the back coating while the heating in the room keeps the face fabric soft, this can result in acute puckering,
Timber Blinds
Timber blinds are not designed for frequent raising and lowering. However, when this is necessary they can be very heavy particularly whilst being raised. It is optimal to assist the blind up with one hand while raising the blind with the other hand. This will reduce the pressure on the lifting cord and prevent jamming and/or breakage. We do not recommend you keep the blind raised in the open position for an extended period of time as this may cause significant bowing of the slats and bottomrail and permanently alter the shape and appearance of the blind. Always return the blind to the fully down position as
soon as practicable.

• If a defect is not visible with the naked eye in natural daylight at a distance of 1.2 metres, it is acceptable.
General Information
- Our products are designed to protect from the sun in calm weather . In strong winds the product should be retracted.
- Our products are not designed to be bug or pest proof.
- Our products are not designed as wind breaks or shelters from rain (with some exceptions).
- Awnings should not be allowed to hold water.
- Do not hang anything from outdoor blinds or awnings.
- It is highly recommended that products be retracted when unattended.
Motorisation
- If motorised, the motor is usually pre-set and adjusted by the installer and does not require any adjustment by the consumer.
- If the motor is used repeatedly over a short period, it may overheat. If this occurs the inbuilt thermal override protection will prevent the motor from operating until it cools down. This is a normal function and ensures safe and reliable motor function.
- Avoid direct wetting of the motor.
- Do not press the remote control buttons repeatedly as this may alter the pre-set limits on the motor .
The following are not covered by this Warranty:
• Damage resulting from accidents, negligence, neglect.
• Damage, including adjustment to the pitch settings of folding arm awnings, resulting from acts of nature such as storm, wind, rain and hail.
• Damage resulting from the consumer not following the Care and Maintenance guidelines.
• Any alterations made to the original blind & awnings products as supplied, that has not been carried out by a Gold Coast Blinds and Shutters service technician.
• This warranty does not cover products where the invoice has not been paid.
• Costs for hire equipment, for example scissor lifts, scaffolding etc. are not included.
• Labour, third party costs or electrical costs (other than the direct replacement of components forming part of the Automation Systems supplied by Gold Coast Blinds and Shutters).
• Products requested outside of our recommended specifications.
• Products purchased from parties other than Gold Coast Blinds and Shutters.
• Damage to or deterioration in the performance of the goods when repairs or adjustments to the goods have been undertaken by a party other than Gold Coast Blinds and Shutters or a technician approved by Gold Coast Blinds and Shutters.
• Components not supplied by Gold Coast Blinds and Shutters..
• Acrylic, Canvas, PVC and mesh fabrics and polyester braid – from gradual fading, discolouration from atmospheric pollution, mould or other debris.
• The build-up of dirt and organic substances on the surface of the fabric combined with humid conditions can encourage mould to appear. If the fabric is rolled up while still damp the layers of the fabric cannot dry and permanent discolouration can occur. Damage of this nature is caused by failure to adhere to our recommendations and is not covered by warranty.
• Deterioration of surface finishes due to exposure to ocean salt spray or other corrosive atmosphere conditions, including hazardous industrial processes.
• When any coating agent, other than a mild detergent diluted in lukewarm water for cleaning purposes, is applied to the fabric.
• Small colour variations from powder coating colour samples and between components and profiles and variations in
fabric colours from samples that are caused by industrial processes.
• Changes or variations in the fabric including veining and folding over time caused by the natural reaction of the fabric
to the environment.
• Products that fall outside the warranty period.
Fabric Maintenance
- Solution dyed acrylic and canvas fabrics are organic textiles whose appearance may change over time and in varying weather conditions. These changes, including waffling, veining and folding, are normal and consistent with the fabric manufacturer’ s specifications.
- If the awning is retracted when wet, at the first opportunity, extend the awning to allow the fabric to dry so as to discourage the growth of algae, mildew or other fungal growth.
- To maintain the appearance and life of the fabric, clean the fabric by brushing regularly with a soft, dry brush.
- Occasionally hose down with clean, cold water on sunny days and allow to dry before retracting.
- Do not allow dirt, dust, grime, leaf litter, bird or bat matter to remain on the fabric as these are mediums for staining and
bacterial growth. - Rinse the fabric as soon as possible to remove foreign matter.
- Avoid cleaning the fabric during humid weather as this can encourage mould to appear.
- Do not use strong bleaches, solvents, alcohol (spirits) or abrasive cleaning agents.
- For fibreglass or polyester based materials with a polymer coating, use a clear coloured cleaner such as Spray and Wipe. Be sure to test the effect of the cleaner on a discreet piece of the fabric to ensure the material is not stained or bleached by the product.
- For difficult marks, fabric cleaners are available which can be sprayed on and wiped off with a clean rag.
- Recycled water can leave traces of lime scale, adding a small amount of vinegar to the water will prevent this from occurring.
- Ensure the fabric is completely dry before retracting the awning.
- Do not use pressurised water cleaners, rotary brushes or steam cleaners.
- Incorrect cleaning will ruin or reduce the protection of the fabric finish and will not be covered under warranty .
FRAME & HARDWARE MAINTENANCE - POWDER COATING
- As awnings are fixed outside they will get dirty over a period of time. This will not reduce their usability however it is recommended that powder-coated components be cleaned regularly with a mild soap solution eg. Wash & Wax and soft cloth or a soft (non-abrasive) natural bristle brush in order to maintain optimal colour.
- To maintain the warranty, do not allow dirt or salt to accumulate on the powder coating.
- Wash the powder coating with mild detergent
- In a normal environment, every 6-12 months
- In a coastal environment, every 3 months.
- In coastal areas, breezes can form whirlwinds transporting grains of sand and salt water . This creates a ‘sandpaper ’ effect, which can reduce the thickness of the powder coating on the structure and components. Coastal areas are considered ‘aggressive environments’ therefore it is recommended that more frequent cleaning and maintenance be carried out using fresh water and mild detergents to increase product life expectancy .
- Avoid allowing factors like paint, concrete, harsh cleaning materials, solvents etc. to come into contact with the powder coating or fabrics. If this occurs, rinse with cold water and mild detergent or natural soap immediately.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
- Try to avoid water getting on or around motors.
- We recommend the use of Silicone spray on moving parts, avoiding the fabric and motor. This should be done annually
or as necessary. - For stainless steel components it is recommended to use a protective lubricant spray (CRC Marine 66®, Innox® or WD40®), followed by a light wipe with a dry cloth to remove any excess.
Wind and Rain Conditions
- Outdoor Blinds, Pivot Arm and Folding Arm awnings will generally withstand wind up to around 35 km per hour .
Notwithstanding this suggestion, it is the responsibility of the customer to retract the awning in windy conditions. - We suggest that if the wind is gusty and it’s uncomfortable outside, awnings in particular should be retracted.
- Our products are sunshades and not intended to be waterproof. Water will generally not damage an outdoor blind or awning, however if they are retracted when wet, they should be extended as soon as practical and allowed to dry .
***The following items fall within accepted industry standards and are excluded from this Warranty***
Mould
Due to the high level of pollutants in the air, fabrics can be attacked by micro-organisms which will make them impossible to clean afterwards. If the awning is installed near roads, air ducts or trees which drop resin or leaves it is important that regular cleaning and maintenance be carried out.
Creases
Cobweb effect/creases can form when the fabric is being manufactured. These creases can show as dark streaks when exposed to the light. This is more noticeable in light coloured fabrics. The quality and operation of the product is not affected.
Waves/Ripples/Waffling
The fabric choice on a wide awning may require the fabric to be joined (overlapped) to achieve the required width. When the awning is rolled up, the tension on the double thickness of the joins and/or side seams may cause the single layer of fabric between the joins and side seams to appear wavy, rippled or waffled when the awning is rolled out again. This trait can be more prevalent on one seam compared to another. This is unavoidable and these ‘visual defects’ do not diminish the quality of the product. This effect may also occur if, during heavy rain, a large amount of water collects between the joins and/or side seams, the weight of which causes the fabric to stretch. Fraying & AbrasionIn the event an awning is exposed to continuous strong winds it may show signs of wear , fraying or abrasion. This is less likely to occur in polyester fabrics.
Water-repellence
Acrylic fabrics are not waterproof, and like any other fabric they have microscopic porous holes where the threads cross over .
Further to a special impregnation treatment for outdoor use, the acrylic and polyester fabrics are dirt, water and oil repellent.
This means that any drops of water will run off awning fabrics due to their inclination. The effectiveness of this finish does gradually reduce over time due to weather and environmental factors.
Resistance to Decomposition & Environmental Factors
CAwning fabrics are generally made from synthetic fibres, which do not contain any biodegradable substances and therefore are resistant to decomposition. A build-up of dirt and organic substances on the surface of the fabric combined with humid conditions can encourage mould to appear. If the fabric is rolled up while still damp the layers of fabric cannot dry and permanent discolouration can occur.

- To open and close the louvre blades, locate a blade in the centre of the set of blades and, with your hand in the centre of the blade rotate the blade (which will operate all the blades) to the desired position.
- If over time the louvre blades won’t stay open, the tension can be adjusted by using the tension adjustment screws positioned on the side edges on either side of the shutter panel.Remove the White Sticker Dot and using a SQ2 tool tighten the screw until the blades have the desired tension. Do not over tension the blades, it only takes minor tightening to tension the blades sufficiently.
- To open hinged shutters to access the window, simply swing the panel open as you would a door. When closing ensure that the panel is fully closed against the magnets. If a panel has dropped slightly and is catching on the bottom frame (this is a usual trait with hinged and bi-fold shutters), to avoid damage to the frame the panel will need to be slightly
lifted back into the frame. Lift panel using the frame, do not lift by using the blades. Do not leave panels swung open for extended periods, close panels as soon as practicable. - Sliding shutters that are ‘Closed Bypass’ require the louvre blades to be closed before sliding the panels past each other. Bi-Fold louvre blades must also be closed before moving the panels. Failure to close the blades before moving panels
may significantly damage the blades. - Shutters do not provide complete blockout. They are designed to control light, privacy and airflow .
