Folding-arm retractable awnings, custom made for your space.
Every retractable awning is custom measured and made to suit your patio, deck, balcony or windows. A folding-arm mechanism extends the fabric out flat and retracts it back to a compact, protected roll when not in use.
How it works
- Fabric is mounted on a roller tube and extended by a pair of folding arms
- Adjustable pitch (slope) directs water run-off and controls the shade angle
- Retracts fully to protect the fabric from weather and UV when not in use
- Custom made up to 4m wide for crank (manual) operation, or up to 6m wide motorised
- Available as manual crank or AC hard-wired motorised operation
- Maximum projection is 3.6m, determined by the width you choose

Wind & weather guidance

Manual (crank) awnings
- Fitted with a winding rod — hook it onto the ring at the top corner and turn to extend or retract
- No power required — reliable and simple to operate
- Available up to 4m wide
- A cost-effective option for smaller or occasional-use spaces
Motorised awnings
- Operated via remote control, with the motor housed inside the pelmet or roller tube — protected from dirt, dust and water
- Available up to 6m wide, AC hard-wired
- All motors are compatible with smart-home automation via a WiFi bridge (can be added at any stage)
- Optional Somfy motion sensors can automatically retract the awning in windy conditions
- If you lose power, don’t try to force the awning — call us and we’ll resolve it
- Motors are pre-set and adjusted by your installer and shouldn’t need adjustment by you
- Repeated remote use in a short period can cause the motor to overheat and cut out temporarily — this is a normal safety feature

- UV-stabilised for long-term colour retention and sun protection
- Natural fabric characteristics like slight waffling or veining over time are normal and don’t affect performance

- Four standard colours: Pearl White, Birch White, Precious Silver and Black Satin

5 years on your retractable awning.
At Gold Coast Blinds and Shutters we back every retractable (folding-arm) awning with a 5-year warranty, plus a 5-year warranty on workmanship and installation. Full warranty terms are defined by product group — comply with these for the warranty claim to be honoured.
The Australian Consumer Law (ACL)
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. Gold Coast Blinds and Shutters will choose the appropriate remedy:
- Replacement of the blinds/awnings
- Repair of the blinds/awnings
- Refunding the cost of the blinds/awnings
- Payment of the reasonable costs of having the blinds/awnings repaired
What’s not covered
- Damage from storm, wind, hail or failing to retract the awning in adverse weather
- Damage from not following the care and maintenance guidance
- Natural fabric characteristics such as veining, folding or small colour variations
- Deterioration from salt spray or other corrosive environments beyond normal wear
Simple upkeep, longer life.
Retractable awnings are fixed outside and will get dirty over time — this won’t reduce usability but a little regular care keeps them looking and performing their best.
Fabric care
- Brush the fabric regularly with a soft, dry brush to remove dirt, dust and debris
- Occasionally hose down with clean, cold water on a sunny day and allow to dry fully before retracting
- If retracted while wet, extend again at the first opportunity to let the fabric dry
- Avoid cleaning in humid weather — this can encourage mould
- Never use strong bleaches, solvents, alcohol or abrasive cleaners — we recommend Swiftee Outdoor Blind Cleaner for tougher marks
Frame & hardware care
- Clean powder-coated parts every 6–12 months with a soft cloth and mild detergent — more often in coastal, salt-exposed areas
- Use a silicone spray annually on moving parts, avoiding the fabric and motor
- For stainless components, use a protective lubricant spray and wipe off any excess
- Keep water away from the motor housing where possible
Before you leave it unattended
- Retract the awning in strong or gusty wind, or if rain is forecast to sit and pool on the fabric
- Don’t hang anything from the awning or allow water to pool on the fabric
