How to Install Roller Blinds

La Reve Roller Blind Fabric

Ready to revamp your window? Fitting a roller blind may seem like a difficult task, but it is a very simple process. However, you’ll want to do it properly so you can use your new blinds to their full potential. From ensuring they sit neatly against your window to preventing too much light from seeping in, a lot is riding on the correct process to installing your roller blinds.

At Gold Coast Blinds & Shutters, we’ll tell you how to install standard roller blinds in 3 easy steps. Read on to see how to DIY.

  • Measure your window frame

If you have a made-to-measure blind, you can move onto the next step. However, if you are trimming your roller blind to size, you will need to measure the size of your window cavity to fit your blinds. We recommend hanging outside the cavity, so you will need to allow a 30mm gap on each side of your blind.

  • Mount the brackets on the window frame

Ensure your brackets are the same height and depth in comparison to the window. Hold the brackets in place and pre-drill the screw holes. Then, once you are satisfied with the position, use a screwdriver to screw the brackets in. Once you have secured your first bracket, repeat the same process on the other side.

  • Mount the roller blind into the brackets

The roller blind should be fully rolled up before placing in the bracket, which will make it easier to handle. Once the blind is in place, you’ll need to secure the chain cord’s bracket to the window frame. A loose chain cord can be hazardous for children, so it is a good idea to screw a control bracket at the bottom of the roller blinds. The chain should be pulled in a permanent taut position.

At this point, you can check to see that your new blind is working smoothly by pulling on the chain to fully extend it.
