What Are Double Roller Blinds?

A two-in-one design — privacy and light, on the same window.

Double roller blinds (also called dual rollers or day & night blinds) combine two separate roller blinds on a single bracket — most commonly a blockout roller for total privacy and darkness, paired with a sunscreen or light-filter roller for daytime light control with a clear view out.

Each layer is its own independent blind with its own chain or motor — so you can drop the sunscreen during the day to soften the glare and keep your view, then pull the blockout down at night for full darkness and privacy. The brackets are designed so both blinds sit neatly on the same window above the architrave with no extra hardware on show.

How double roller blinds work

Two roller mechanisms sit on a single bracket — one in front of the other. The front blind (typically the lighter layer) drops first; the rear blind (typically the blockout) sits behind. Both layers can be operated independently — sunscreen down by day, blockout down at night, or both layers stacked for full blockout and a clean look. Either layer can be motorised individually, or both together.

How double roller blinds work

One window. Two modes. Daylight or darkness.

Drop the lighter layer by day to soften glare and keep your view. Drop the blockout at night for total privacy and darkness. Or stack both layers for a clean architectural look at the window.

Benefits of Double Roller Blinds

Two functions, one bracket — and no compromise on either.

Six reasons double roller blinds earn their spot in living rooms, bedrooms, and home offices across the Gold Coast — pairing the function of two blinds without doubling the window hardware.

Day & night light control

Daytime sunscreen layer for glare control with a view out. Night-time blockout layer for total darkness and complete privacy. The same window, two functions.

Privacy without losing daylight

Sunscreen or light-filter fabric lets daylight in but stops the world looking in — drop it any time of day without darkening the room.

Energy efficiency

The blockout layer acts as an insulating barrier at the window — keeping heat out in summer and warmth in during winter. Drop both layers for the strongest effect.

One clean window line

Both layers sit on a single bracket above the architrave — none of the visual clutter of stacking two separate sets of blinds, curtains and tracks at the one window.

Designer flexibility

Match the two fabrics for a tonal look, contrast them for a designer statement, or coordinate with the rest of the room. Hundreds of colour combinations.

Family & pet safe

Cordless spring, motorised, or child-safe tensioned chain on each layer — AS/NZS 4554 compliant on every install.

Customising Double Roller Blinds for Any Room

Made to fit the window — and the way you live in the room.

Double roller blinds suit almost any room. In living rooms we usually pair a sunscreen with a blockout — view and glare control by day, full privacy by night. In bedrooms a light-filter + blockout combo gives a gentle wake-up without the room turning pitch black at 4:30am summer sunrise. In home offices and kitchens, a sunscreen + light-filter pair cuts screen glare and keeps daytime privacy while still letting soft natural light through.

Every blind is custom made to your exact window measurements — choose your two layers, pick from hundreds of colours across our fabric ranges, then match each layer to the architrave or wall colour for a built-in look. See our full fabric range for every colour and texture option.

Blockout + Sunscreen — view and glare control by day, total dark and privacy by night. The classic dual-roller combo. Blockout + Light Filter — softer daylight without compromising on night-time darkness. Best for bedrooms.

Choosing your two layers

Start with what the room needs at night — usually blockout for bedrooms and living rooms, light filter where privacy matters but full darkness doesn’t. Then pick a daytime layer based on how strong the sun and the view out are. We’ll talk through every combination at the in-home measure.

What our clients say

Don't just take our word for it.

★★★★★

"Sunscreen + blockout dual rollers in the living room — we drop the sunscreen by day to keep the view of the canal without the glare, then close the blockout at night. Best of both worlds."

KW
Karen W.Broadbeach Waters
★★★★★

"Did the whole house in dual rollers — light filter + blockout in bedrooms, sunscreen + blockout in the lounge. Looks tailored, both layers run smooth, and the team was in and out in a morning."

PM
Pat M.Burleigh Heads
★★★★★

"Motorised dual rollers in the master bedroom — the light-filter drops gently in the morning so we wake up to soft daylight, then the blockout closes in the evening. Set and forget."

What is the difference between a double roller blind and a standard roller blind?
A standard roller blind has a single layer of fabric on one bracket — you pick one fabric type (blockout, sunscreen, or light filter) and get that one function. A double roller (also called a dual roller or day & night blind) puts two roller blinds on a single bracket, so you get two functions at the same window — typically blockout + sunscreen — operated independently.
Are double roller blinds easy to maintain and clean?
Yes — exactly the same care as a single roller, just two layers instead of one. Dust each layer monthly with a soft brush or vacuum upholstery attachment, and spot-clean stains with lukewarm water and mild detergent. Allow either layer to dry fully rolled down before retracting. Avoid bleach, solvents or steam cleaning — both layers will look new for years with basic care.
How to measure for double roller blinds?
We do all the measuring for you — free of charge, in your home. A double roller needs slightly deeper bracket clearance than a single (to accommodate both fabric rolls), so we always measure from inside the architrave with a steel rule and confirm the top fix has enough depth. If you'd like to ballpark before we visit, measure the inside width of the architrave at three points (top, middle, bottom) and use the smallest figure.
How do double-layer roller blinds work?
Two roller mechanisms sit one in front of the other on a single bracket. Each layer has its own chain or motor, so you can drop one without affecting the other — sunscreen down by day, blockout down at night, or both layers stacked for full blockout. Either layer can be motorised individually, or both together with a single remote/app.
How long does it take to install double roller blinds?
Manufacturing takes 2–3 weeks from your accepted quote (custom-made to your window measurements). Installation usually takes 15–25 minutes per window — a little longer than a single roller because both layers need to be bracketed, aligned and tested. A whole-house dual roller install is typically completed in a single morning.
