Off-the-shelf and DIY motorised kits force your windows to suit the product. We do it the other way around: every blind is measured for your opening, then the motor is selected to match — the weight of the blind, the width of the window, whether there's power nearby, and how you want to control it.
You choose the fabric and colour; we specify the Motomate motor, power source and control method, and plan any smart home integration before a single thing is ordered. In practice that means picking between a 25mm and 35mm motor based on the width and weight of each blind — anything over about 2200mm wide generally needs the 35mm. Already have blinds you like? In many cases existing manual blinds can be converted to motorised — it depends on the brand, age and condition, so bring it up at the measure and we'll tell you honestly whether it's worth doing.

Be honest — do you need motors everywhere?
Both give you shade, privacy and light control. The difference is convenience, and it matters more in some rooms than others. Plenty of our jobs are a mix of the two.

Motor, bridge, app — three parts, one tidy system.
A motorised blind is simpler than most people expect. There’s a motor doing the lifting, an optional hub connecting it to your Wi-Fi, and whatever you choose to control it with.
Motomate — our own motor brand
We fit Motomate motors, a brand Gold Coast Blinds and Shutters owns the trademark to. That means the motors in your blinds aren’t a rebadged import we’re simply reselling — we control the specification, hold parts locally, and handle support ourselves instead of passing you along to a third-party supplier.
Motor sizes
- Indoor blinds take either a 25mm or 35mm motor
- As a rule of thumb, blinds over 2200mm wide need the larger 35mm motor to handle the extra size and weight
- Outdoor blinds use the 35mm motor

Retrofitting existing blinds
In many cases existing manual blinds or shutters can be converted to motorised operation. Whether it’s worthwhile depends on the brand, age and condition of what you already have — bring it up at your measure and we’ll give you a straight answer either way.
Battery, solar or hardwired.
How your blinds are powered often decides how straightforward the installation is — especially in apartments or finished homes where running new wiring isn’t practical.
Rechargeable battery
- No wiring, no electrician — the simplest retrofit for an existing home
- Lasts approximately 8 months on typical daily use — around one up-and-down cycle per day, or roughly 200 presses of the button

- Will not operate during a power outage
Which one suits you? New builds and renovations usually go 240V hardwired. Existing homes and apartments usually go battery, with a solar panel added where the window suits it. We’ll confirm what’s practical at your measure.

5 years on motorised product.
At Gold Coast Blinds and Shutters we back motorised product with a 5-year warranty, plus a 5-year warranty on workmanship and installation. Full warranty terms are defined by product group — comply with these for a claim to be honoured.
The Australian Consumer Law (ACL)
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. Gold Coast Blinds and Shutters will choose the appropriate remedy:
- Replacement of the blinds
- Repair of the blinds
- Refunding the cost of the blinds
- Payment of the reasonable costs of having the blinds repaired
Commencement of warranty
The warranty period commences from the date of installation. Replacing a motor or component under warranty does not restart the period — the original installation date continues to apply.
What’s not covered
- Damage from forcing a blind by hand during a power outage
- Damage from repeatedly pressing remote buttons and altering the motor’s preset limits
- Water damage from directly wetting a motor
- Damage from not following the care and maintenance guidance
- Fair wear and tear, or repairs and adjustments carried out by anyone other than our team
- Labour, third-party or electrical costs beyond direct replacement of components we supplied
Almost nothing to do — but a few things to avoid.
Motorised blinds need less attention than manual ones, because nothing is being tugged on every day. The main thing is knowing the handful of habits that shorten a motor’s life.
Regular care
- Keep fabric and tracks clean and free of debris — grit in a track is the usual cause of stiff or noisy operation
- Dust fabric with a soft brush or vacuum upholstery attachment
- Recharge battery motors roughly every 8 months on typical use — about 6 hours on a standard micro USB cable. Solar-panel motors handle this themselves
- Run each blind through a full open and close occasionally, even in rooms you rarely use
- If you have wind or sun sensors fitted, clean the sensor spinners regularly so they read accurately
Please avoid
- Don’t force a blind by hand — especially during a power outage. Call us instead
- Don’t press remote buttons repeatedly — this can alter the motor’s preset limits and means a service call to reset them
- Keep water off the motor — avoid direct wetting when cleaning windows or hosing outdoor areas
- Don’t use solvent or abrasive cleaners on componentry or powder-coated surfaces
Normal behaviour, not a fault
- If a motor is run repeatedly in a short period it can overheat and automatically cut out until it cools down. That’s a built-in safety feature working as intended — wait a while and it will operate again
- Motors are pre-set and adjusted by your installer and shouldn’t need adjustment by you
